The City of Garden City is centrally located in Wayne County.  It has a population of approximately 32,000 and offers many services to its residents. These include parks with baseball diamonds, swimming pools, and an ice arena for hockey and figure skating.

Garden City also has a good public library system, an excellent seniors program and the 323-bed Garden City Community Hospital. It has an outstanding "model world language program" and a world renowned school for the autistic.

The city organizes several festivals for its residents throughout the year including the Garden City Hoedown in September or October, and the Garden City festival in August. The Chamber of Commerce is also very active and organizes programs and dinners
